“svartideyði I: tað ónda” by svartmálm
“svartideyði I:tað ónda" is the first of a three-song suite. The song opens with a slow build until the song opens up. As a commenter on bandcamp put it,
gritty with a weird Dante inferno warmth to it, eerie, godless, and pitch black
The first three minutes of the sound build atmosphere, then as someone else on the internet pointed out, the band caves in the listener’s head with a sledgehammer. I don’t think it’s that intense. It’s most likely akin to the pits of Hell opening up.
Maybe just stare at the album art, listen to the three-song movement, and write your own ekphrastic poem. “svartideyði III:dayðin nærkast” closes out the album with pure radiance characteristic of summer evenings spent listening to semi-tractor trailers jake-braking on the interstate while fireflies flit around the backyard.
